Alibag also spelt as Alibaug is a coastal town in Raigarh District of Maharashtra. Raigarh was formerly known as Kulaba. Alibaug is located at a distance of 98km from Mumbai and 141km Pune. Surrounding the serene coastal town Alibag, Kanakeshwar Forest is famous for its ancient Temple of Lord Shiva. Perched on the hill near Mapgaon, the sacred temple is located at a distance of 12km from Alibag. The temple of Kanakeshwar was built in 1764 in Hoysala architecturing style. The cool temperature of Kanakeshwar Forest has made it an ideal breeding for reptiles and birds. Devotees from far and wide, travel towards Alibag to worship the Shivalinga in Kanakeshwar Temple.
Sited amidst the mysterious water of Arabian Sea is Janjira Fort of Murud. Located at a distance of 58km from Alibag, Janjira Fort showcases an astounding Mughal Architecturing Style. It was built in 17th century and considered one of the strongest marine forts in India. Till date Janjira Fort houses the canons and guns which was used during the war. The huge pillared gate, ancient mosques, walls carved with intricate design and ruins of Hindu Temple are few of the most important features of this fort.
Situated close to Kanakeshwar Forest is a verdant land called Vrindavan Farm in Alibag. It is known for producing more than 70,000 verities of plants like mango, chikoo, guava, and apple. Vrindavan Farm with its designer gardens, patches of vegetables and orchards enclosed with coconut and papaya tree creates a visual appeal for all the visitors. Within the farm visitors can also find museum which preserve and showcases the local art and craft like Bidri ware, paintings on leaves and several other tribal hand-crafted artifacts.
